This workshop covers informed consent, patient assessment regarding capacity to make an informed decision, the ability to identify the legal authorized decision-maker, as well as navigating police presence at the hospital.

Who is this course for?
This course is open to all staff, physicians, and volunteers.
Course Focus:
In Module 1 of this course, you will:
- Gain knowledge regarding the components of informed consent
- Learn to appreciate the required elements of patient capacity
- Learn to identify the appropriate decision maker
- Develop confidence in educating SDMs about their role
In Module 2 of this course, you will:
- Learn when information can be shared with the Police
- Gain knowledge of the requirements involved in releasing evidence to Police
- Learn aspects of dealing with illicit/controlled substances that come into the hospital
- Navigate the presence of Police/Corrections Officers at the hospital
