Leading Safe, High-Quality Care: Risk Management & Patient Safety

This course introduces leaders to the fundamentals of patient safety, quality of care, and risk management, with a focus on the leader’s role in creating and sustaining a culture of safety. Participants will explore how harm and safety occurrences are defined, understand their responsibilities in responding to serious safety events, and learn how Quality of Care Consultants (QCCs) can support leaders in navigating risk management issues, serious safety events, and medical-legal claims.

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

• Develop a foundational understanding of patient safety, quality of care, and how harm is defined.
• Understand the role of leaders in fostering a culture of safety and responding to safety occurrences.
• Recognize safety occurrence trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Understand the role of Quality of Care Consultants (QCCs) and when to engage them for support.
• Identify key leadership accountabilities and approaches for managing serious safety events and reviews.
