Ally in Action: Striving for Social Justice in Your Personal and Professional Life
Course Description:
Have you ever witnessed or experienced racism, homophobia, or sexism within your work environment? Did you know how to respond? Although people want to speak up to these controversial situations, and advocate for the people being impacted, they often grapple in silence with how to address the situation.
The Ally in Action program is perfect for people who are passionate about social justice and change, and people who want to advocate for individuals who are at risk for experiencing injustice, and aren’t quite sure how to speak up. Within 2 interactive training sessions, you will have the opportunity to work in a safe group environment to learn about privilege and oppression, and develop practical advocacy strategies to support patients, colleagues, and people outside of your professional scope

Compassionate Cross-Cultural Communication - February 2021
Have you ever been part of a conversation where things went wrong and you walked away thinking to yourself, “they just don’t get it!” or “that’s not how I would have spoken!” Effective and compassionate communication is not always easy, and cross-cultural communication can be even more challenging.
Across an interactive, three-hour learning session you will have the opportunity to understand what culture is, why our culture matters to cross-cultural communication, and ten strategies for compassionate cross-cultural communication. You will also analyze case studies based on real experiences to explore how to put the ten strategies for compassionate cross-cultural communication into practice.

The Two Spirit and LGBTQIA+ Positive Space Training is a workshop designed to increase HHS’ capacity to create safe(r) and positive spaces for Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, and intersex patients, staff, physicians, learners, and volunteers.
This interactive session will:
- Provide an introduction to current Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ terminology and language
- Create opportunities to discuss healthcare scenarios in a non-judgmental environment
- Provide strategies to engage in difficult conversations
- Illustrate the important role of an Ally in creating safe(r) and positive space

Building Thriving Communities: Intersectional Anti-Racism: Anti-Oppression for Social Justice is perfect for people who are committed to social justice and believe in equity and inclusion for all. This course can be taken as a stand-alone, but it also builds on knowledge and concepts developed over other CFPD programs, including Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ Positive Space Training, Compassionate Cross-Cultural Communication, and Ally in Action to provide attendees with a well-rounded education of equity, diversity and inclusion principles, identifying and removing systemic barriers, and taking personal responsibility for interrupting both interpersonal and systemic oppression
