Course Description:
Have you ever witnessed or experienced racism, homophobia, or sexism within your work environment? Did you know how to respond? Although people want to speak up to these controversial situations, and advocate for the people being impacted, they often grapple in silence with how to address the situation.
The Ally in Action program is perfect for people who are passionate about social justice and change, and people who want to advocate for individuals who are at risk for experiencing injustice, and aren’t quite sure how to speak up. Within 2 interactive training sessions, you will have the opportunity to work in a safe group environment to learn about privilege and oppression, and develop practical advocacy strategies to support patients, colleagues, and people outside of your professional scope.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this course you will be able to:
• Act as a supportive ally for diverse and marginalized individuals, in order to take a stand against any form of injustice.
• Adopt strategies to listen well, and successfully and respectfully engage in courageous, controversial, at times challenging, but necessary conversations.
• Understanding how privilege, power, and oppression contribute to social injustice.
