Making tough calls is an emotional exercise. So are giving and receiving feedback, confronting disruptive behavior, trying to do too much with too few resources, engaging a team to work together towards a common goal, changing the way we’ve always done things, comforting patients and families in time of crisis…
This program will make you more keenly aware of the way that emotional and social intelligence drive engagement, performance, results and resilience and will support you to enhance your own emotional and social intelligence while raising the bar on emotional and social intelligence at HHS.
What is EQ?
Emotional and Social Intelligence is a measure of how aware you are of your emotions and the way they drive what you see, how you act and the results you are able to achieve:
• your ability to regulate your emotional state and behavior.
• your ability to change your mind and/or your habits in response to feedback without letting defensiveness or emotional attachments get in the way.
• your ability to engage and influence others and successfully collaborate towards a common end.
Why Is EQ Critical for Healthcare?
Healthcare is a relationship business. It operates within a complex network of relationships - with patients, families, colleagues, teams, and partners. It depends the collaboration of many players to create good outcomes. It is also a high stakes business where emotions often run high and hot--and our emotional capacity is often stretched.

Special Course Features:
1. This program includes an introduction to Emotional and Social Intelligence through an experiential program, called The Art of Seeing, at the McMaster Art Gallery.
2. Participants will complete the Bar-On EQi 2.0 assessment prior to the program and debrief the results confidentially 1:1 with a coach after day 1 of the program.
3. Participants will leave with a toolkit they can use to continue the conversation about Emotional and Social Intelligence in the workplace
MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION: Attendance at this program entitles certified Canadian College of Health Leaders members (CHE / Fellow) to 11 Category I credits toward their maintenance of certification requirement.
